Orders & shipping

How much is shipping, and how long does it take?
Standard shipping is $6.95 for goods that ship from our supplier warehouses, in the US or China, and free on orders of $50 or more. Orders are processed within 1–2 business days and usually arrive 3–7 business days after they ship. Any item that ships from our supplier’s warehouse in China says so on its product page and usually arrives in 8–15 business days, tracked.

Why does shipping cost more on some items?
Many products ship directly from the US maker named on the page, such as the cleaning concentrates, bath soaks, balms, candles, incense, blanket, matcha set and tongue drums. Each maker sets its own shipping rate, and checkout adds it to your shipping total. Those items arrive in their own box.

Where do you ship?
Anywhere in the United States. We don’t ship internationally yet.

How do I track my order?
We email you a tracking link as soon as your order ships. You can also find it on your order status page.

Why did my order arrive in separate boxes?
Items in one order can ship from different warehouses or makers, so they sometimes arrive separately. Each box has its own tracking link.

Returns

What if it’s not right for me?
You have 30 days from delivery to decide. Contact us and we’ll sort out a refund. See our refund policy for details.

My item arrived damaged or isn’t working.
Send us a photo within 30 days of delivery and we’ll send a replacement or a refund, whichever you prefer.

Natural & organic

What do you mean by “natural”?
Our shorthand for goods made mainly from plant, mineral or animal materials: salts and essential oils, tallow, cotton, bamboo, wood, beeswax, soy. Product pages describe materials and ingredients in the maker’s own terms.

Which products are organic?
We call a product organic when its maker does. Where the maker names a certification, we repeat it on the product page. We do not verify certifications ourselves.

Do you test the products?
No. We are a shop, not a lab. We describe products in the maker’s own terms, make no health claims, and never say a product kills germs. Our page How we read a label explains what we look for.

Where are your natural goods made?
Most are made by small brands in the United States and ship straight from the maker named on the product page. The page says where a product is made when the maker tells us.

The products

Why do you sell so many different things?
We stock the everyday things a home runs on, from the kitchen sink to the dog bed, and keep each department small. The Japanese word zakka (雑貨) means everyday goods, and it has come to mean small, well-chosen things that make daily life a little nicer. That is the idea behind the shop. Every product is described plainly, and every product page says where it ships from.

What do the Japanese names mean?
A light accent from the story behind our name. Oyasumi (おやすみ) means “good night,” Sazanami (さざなみ) “ripples,” Hinode (日の出) “sunrise,” Yugure (夕暮れ) “dusk,” Yutanpo (湯たんぽ) “hot water bottle.”

Are your products made in Japan?
No. Our design is Japanese-inspired. Our natural goods come from the US makers named on each page; our imported tools are made by manufacturing partners in China. Most ship from warehouses in the United States; any item that ships from our supplier’s warehouse in China says so on its product page.

What’s in the Yugure Set?
The Oyasumi Bluetooth sleep mask and the Sazanami white noise sound machine. Bought together at $65, you save $1.99 on the separate prices. The two items may arrive in separate boxes.

Can I sleep on my side with the Oyasumi mask?
The maker describes the speakers as thin and flat and the mask as made for side sleepers. If it isn’t comfortable for you, our 30-day return applies.

How long does the battery last, and how do I charge it?
Battery life and charging details are listed on each product page and in the instructions in the box.

Will these products fix my sleep?
Everything here is for everyday use, comfort and relaxation. Nothing is a medical device or meant to diagnose or treat any condition. If you have ongoing trouble sleeping, or a skin concern, please talk to a doctor.
